The project began in 2002 as an investigation into areas of urban space used by groups and individuals for their own ends, creating temporary places of interest which often became part of urban folklore. These groups included collectives of artists, skateboarders, street runners, organisers of parties and raves, musicians and graffiti writers. The idea of 'Non Place' (after Auge 1995) refers to places of transience that do not hold enough significance to be regarded as "places". This is challenged by the idea that the in-between spaces, whether temporally or spatially defined, act as a magnet for those operating outside of social norms. The emptiness of these spaces inspires ordinary people to imagine alternative realities.
